What is Qigong?

Qigong is an energetic health and wellness practice that encompasses postures, breathing techniques, flowing movements, and meditations. Qigong is part of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), along with acupuncture, massage, and herbal medicine.  Literally, Qi means “vital energy” and gong means “the skill of working with”; so, Qigong is the practice of cultivating the life-force energy.

Qi is inherent in the living human body, and the human body is sustained by Qi.  Qi flows in our body like rivers and streams forming an energetic network. The conditions of our immediate environment, our lifestyle, stress, ignoring our bodily signals, and our emotions are all factors that can induce a disruption in the circulation of Qi. When imbalances or blockages occur, discomforts and other illnesses appear.  At Mindful Essence, we believe that each individual has the responsibility (“the ability to respond”) to self-care, meaning to restore the circulation of Qi within the body.  Healing occurs through balancing Qi which will allow the body to build strength and regulate all its functions including the immune system.

The healing power of Qigong may be experienced as a self-practice or as an energetic treatment given by a certified practitioner. Self-practice Qigong is simple and accessible.  There are no complex sequences to remember and it requires no particular skill level or experience. When imbalances and blockages are deep and have been for a long time we need a bigger energy shift to achieve healing. Under these circumstances, the certified practitioner will use proven Medical Qigong technics and protocols to bring back balance in the body, the mind, and the soul.

Qigong activates the healing power of your body and supports the transformation of your physical, emotional and spiritual life.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does Qigong work?

Qigong works by restoring the natural flow of Qi (energy) within the body allowing the activation of its innate ability to heal.

Techniques include Qi emission, non-contact or light touch Qigong massage and acupressure, and healing sound therapy.

By removing energetic blockages, Qigong encourages the body to move back to its natural state of balance and harmony and provides a global sense of well-being.

How much time will it take?

New patients are usually at the clinic for 90 minutes. We will start by opening a dialogue about what you are currently experiencing, as well as what you would like to change or release. After the session, your practitioner will teach you specific movement(s) to do at home to support the benefits of your session.

For returning clients, each appointment last about an hour.

Does Qigong hurt or can be dangerous for me?

Qigong induces a deep relaxation and a general sensation of release (relief).

However, you might experience shifts of energy as a healing response. Those shifts in energy may create some physical or emotional side effects like physical tingling, increased body pain, feeling lighter energetically, mild fatigue, nausea, muscle soreness, headache, thirst, and emotional swings.

This is all a part of the body's healing process and it will decrease and eventually disappear after a certain period.

What does the flow of Qi feel like?

The sensations of Qi within our body are unique and a distinct experience for everyone. Therefore, there is no wrong or right way to experience it.

Here are a few of the typical Qi sensations.

*Tingling or Itching in the hands, feet,  ...

*Feelings of floating or sinking

*Feeling of warmth or coolness spreading in      limbs and torso or coming out from the hands

*Sense of flowing or circulating

*Moving in the belly

*Sensation of a magnetic field between hands

*Feeling of electrical sensations in the limbs and body

*Feeling of releasing the tension in shoulders and neck

*Feeling the urge to cry or to release tears

*Uncontrolled farting, yawning, burping, sweating

*Feeling of reconnecting with a lost part of oneself, of coming home

How often should I get Qigong Healing Session?

The effects of a Qigong Healing session last usually between 2 to 4 days depending on your specific issue(s) and your goal.

Generally, the more you get Qigong Healing Sessions, the better it works, and the better you feel.

Doing the homework(s) given by your practitioner is the better way to integrate and sustain the benefits of your healing session.

What does sliding scale price mean?

Sliding scale means that you decide what you can afford and want to pay at each visit.

Your Qigong Healing Session will meet the same high-quality no matter what you pay.
