What is Qigong?

Qigong is an energetic health and wellness practice that encompasses postures, breathing techniques, flowing movements, and meditations. It is a fundamental component of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), alongside acupuncture, massage, and herbal medicine.  "Qi," literally meaning "vital energy," and "gong," which translates to "the skill of working with," collectively form "Qigong," representing the cultivation of life-force energy.

Qi is intrinsic to the human body, and the functions of the human body are sustained by Qi.  Qi flows in our body like rivers and streams creating an intricate energetic network. Factors such as our immediate environment, lifestyle, stress, neglect of bodily signals, and suppressed emotions can disrupt this flow. These imbalances or blockages often manifest as discomfort, pain, and physical or mental ailments.

At Mindful Essence, we believe each one of us has an innate healing capacity, a potential that extends to both physical and emotional recovery.   To tap into it, we just need the right activation. Healing involves re-balancing Qi flow, which in turn facilitates the regulation of physical and mental functions, creating optimal health and equilibrium.

The healing power of Qigong can be harnessed through self-practice or under the guidance of a certified practitioner. Self-practice of Qigong is accessible and straightforward, requiring no complex sequences to remember or specific expertise.  However, when addressing deep-rooted, long-standing imbalances, a certified practitioner works with established Medical Qigong techniques and protocols to tackle the root cause rather than mere symptoms, thereby creating a major energy shift to facilitate profound healing.

Qigong activates our inherent healing potential, catalyzing the transformation of our physical, emotional, mental and spiritual life toward a harmonious state of well-being.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does Qigong work?

Qigong works by restoring the natural flow of Qi (energy) within the body allowing the activation of its innate ability to heal.

Techniques include Qi emission, non-contact or light touch Qigong massage and acupressure, and healing sound therapy.

By removing energetic blockages, Qigong encourages the body to move back to its natural state of balance and harmony and provides a global sense of well-being.

How much time will it take?

Healing Qigong & Vitality Coaching Sessions usually last 90 minutes. We will start by opening a dialogue about what you are currently experiencing, as well as what you would like to change or release. After the session, your practitioner will teach you specific movement(s) to do at home to support the benefits of your session.

Does Qigong hurt or can be dangerous for me?

Qigong induces a deep relaxation and a general sensation of release (relief).

However, you might experience shifts of energy as a healing response. Those shifts in energy may create some physical or emotional side effects like physical tingling, increased body pain, feeling lighter energetically, mild fatigue, nausea, muscle soreness, headache, thirst, and emotional swings.

This is all a part of the body's healing process and it will decrease and eventually disappear after a certain period.

What does the flow of Qi feel like?

The sensations of Qi within our body are unique and a distinct experience for everyone. Therefore, there is no wrong or right way to experience it.

Here are a few of the typical Qi sensations.

*Tingling or Itching in the hands, feet,  ...

*Feelings of floating or sinking

*Feeling of warmth or coolness spreading in      limbs and torso or coming out from the hands

*Sense of flowing or circulating

*Moving in the belly

*Sensation of a magnetic field between hands

*Feeling of electrical sensations in the limbs and body

*Feeling of releasing the tension in shoulders and neck

*Feeling the urge to cry or to release tears

*Uncontrolled farting, yawning, burping, sweating

*Feeling of reconnecting with a lost part of oneself, of coming home

How often should I get Qigong Healing Session?

The effects of a Qigong Healing session last usually between 2 to 4 days depending on your specific issue(s) and your goal.

Generally, the more you get Qigong Healing Sessions, the better it works, and the better you feel.

Doing the homework(s) given by your practitioner is the better way to integrate and sustain the benefits of your healing session.

Are distant Healing Qigong sessions as good as in person?

The distant Healing Sessions offer the same benefits as our in-person sessions.  This might sound strange, but energy is not limited by time or space.  Your practitioner works with the same energy whether you receive it in-person or via Zoom, FaceTime or phone.
